Having a website that really reflects who you are and what you do is key for any dental professional.

When thinking about the design of your new website, how you want it to look is usually at the forefront of your mind. But what are the other key things you need to consider?

We have worked on plenty of website designs over the years for the dental industry, so we know what works – and what doesn’t. It’s certainly a niche we never expected to fall in to – but we love working on sites with big smiles!

In this blog we’ll cover the essential elements we recommend including in your website design, what you should consider when approaching a design agency, and how we go about providing branding and web design for dentists and dental practices.

Key elements

Blog

A blog on your site is a great way to communicate with your clients about the latest news and information from your dental practice, but did you know that it’s also a great way to establish brand authority?

Search engines use blog content to help you rank higher in search results, therefore making your brand more visible to a wider audience. If you have lots of blogs on a specific service you provide, as well as a typical service page, search engines will see you as more of an authority on the topic.

We recommend implementing a blog within your dental website design to engage your audience, and also build trust and credibility.

Image-led design and galleries

Pictures speak louder than words (sometimes!)

Image focused designs are obviously very popular with healthcare professionals such as dentists, especially where cosmetic dentistry and facial aesthetics are involved.

Showing off the work that you do for clients can enhance the messaging you are wanting to highlight, as well as keep users engaged when clicking through your site.

Before and after pictures are important for showing your work and capturing your future patients’ imagination of what’s possible – but equally important is showing your welcoming practice and friendly team. The dentist can be a source of anxiety for some – so make sure you’re giving the right first impression!

Having a gallery section within your website design, specifically within your top navigation draws direct attention to where all of your visual testimonials are – this implements trust amongst prospective clients.

Testimonials

People want to hear all about your dental practice straight from your clients themselves.

Having testimonials throughout your site is a great way to allow users to hear great feedback about the work that you’ve done.

Dental care is very personal, so having reviews and testimonials instils confidence and professionalism in your brand.

Whether you gather these direct from your patients and post them on the site yourself, or integrate a review feed from Google or Trustpilot, reviews help convert curious viewers into patients.

Colour

Colour choice is an important factor when it comes to website design – almost as important as choosing the interior colour of your practice! It’s one of the first things people will notice about your website, and certain colours connote different meanings. A lot of dentists favour blue and green – common in healthcare environments – as they feel familiar and professional. But there’s no harm in breaking out of this trend and trying something different – it could help your site feel more personal and less clinical.

Things to consider

Here’s five quick things to consider when thinking about your new dental care website design:

  1. High Quality Imagery: show off your transformations, clinic and team
  2. Clear User Journey: navigation and call to action buttons
  3. Cohesive brand and colour choice
  4. Set out objectives: brand awareness or bookings
  5. SEO friendly content: get the attention of your target audience
