Young people smiling with the UKEC

UKEC

A clear and accessible WordPress site for an international student support services provider.

About the project

United Kingdom Education Centre (UKEC) has been providing free advice and support to international students looking to study in the UK since 1999. Every year they help over 3,000 students find places at UK colleges and universities – assisting students with preparation, applications, visas, accommodation, and offering career consultations.

The Brief

UKEC needed something simple and functional – a website to clearly communicate with users, enabling them to find and access information easily. Accessibility was an important factor as the site would need to appeal to a broad audience of international users.

A key part of the project would be a bespoke search filter system for the homepage, something to allow users to immediately search for a subject, course, or institution and find a place to study. Likewise, UKEC needed a sophisticated form system to help them keep track of enquires and applications at their Manchester head office.

A bright, clean, accessible design

Using the UKEC logo as a starting point, our lead designer, Rob, created a full digital style board and colour palate, utilising the UKEC red and blue from the logo. The site design uses a simple colour scheme to great effect, with gradients to give variety to the red and blue. This leaves a lot of clear white and silver spaces to let the content breathe.

Our web design also incorporates striking elements such as parallax scrolling blocks and custom header modules blending graphics with images to help bring the content to life. The overall result is something clean and easy to use while also offering something visually engaging and dynamic.

Custom search filter and dynamic forms

The bespoke WordPress website we delivered contains around 100 profiles for UK universities, colleges, and schools – and our custom course finder filter system streamlines the user journey, allowing you to find the right course in just a few clicks. These profiles contain key information, testimonials, course details, social media handles – all presented clearly and logically.

Our head developer, Jon, built an events calendar with an external Eventbrite integration. The calendar also has a custom tags system to allow users to find events using a specific category or tag – making it easier to identify events applicable to them. It also allows users to easily distinguish online events from in-person events.

Ongoing SEO content writing

To improve the organic search rankings of key terms for UKEC we created a tailored plan to write new pages of content focusing on international student life, general course subject information, and specific locations. These will help drive traffic towards the site and raise UKEC’s profile.

Our content team will write these new pages and populate them onto the site, incorporating key search terms into the copy without overloading the text. This forms part of our ongoing SEO content support for UKEC.
