Supporting our community

Splitpixel have always been all about sustainability and supporting the local community – it’s one of our core values. Over the years our team have done a lot of volunteering; we’ve planted trees, helped build a school playground, used our marketing skills to support charities, and will be taking part in The Big Sleep Out this year!

In that spirit, we have been looking for more ways to support our community through volunteering and direct action – and Splitpixel are now proud to announce that we have partnered with The Welcome Centre, a charity and food bank based in Huddersfield.

About The Welcome Centre

The Welcome Centre are the largest independent food bank in the UK, delivering food parcels and crisis packs to those in the community who need them most. With the increasing cost of living, many households across the country are living in food poverty and need access to food banks to help keep food on the table.

The Welcome Centre receives donations of food and household items from the local community. They have blue bins set up in supermarkets across Huddersfield where you can buy extra tins and non-perishables during your weekly shop to pop into the bins, as well as allowing larger corporate donations from the supermarkets themselves.

They have an entire warehouse ran by volunteers who are dedicated to supporting people through the food poverty crisis, using the donated items to make up food packages and crisis packs to be delivered to those who have been referred to the charity. The Welcome Centre keep their website updated with the things they are currently running low on in a bid to ensure each pack has enough items to create healthy meals and a few snacks and treats thrown in.

What are we doing to support The Welcome Centre

Since partnering with The Welcome Centre, Splitpixel have not only donated vital funds to support the food bank, but have also spent time at the centre to see how it all works behind the scenes. All of the Splitpixel team get time off work for volunteering days to use whenever we like – and many of the team have chosen to use these days to visit The Welcome Centre to get stuck in and support the great work they do.

We have been going down in pairs to support the volunteers who work tirelessly to make up the food parcels. Ash, our Development Manager, and Sales Director Greg were the first to use their time to support The Welcome Centre team, going down before Christmas to help sort through donations. The other teams in the office soon followed suit, with Eleanor and Lily from the Content and Marketing team finding themselves enjoying unloading cages of tinned carrots and design duo Rob and Sam dedicating their day to preparing food parcels.

The Big Sleep Out

To further support the charity, our Director Charlie, Lead Developer Ash Kwil and Marketing Exec Seth are all taking part in The Big Sleep Out on Friday 28th of March.

They will be rolling out their sleeping bags and spending the night in Huddersfield Town’s John Smiths stadium to raise vital funds for The Welcome Centre. The Big Sleep Out aims to highlight the struggles people face when they have no other option than to sleep on the streets while raising as much money as possible to help fund The Welcome Centre food bank.

You can support Splitpixel in their efforts to raise money by donating to the cause or sharing our donation page with your friends, family and colleagues – or you could join us on the day!

How you can support Splitpixel and The Welcome Centre

As an independent charity, The Welcome Centre are doing incredible work to support the local community, but they can only do that with your help.

If you would like to support The Welcome Centre, you can donate food items at one of the many donation points based in supermarkets across Huddersfield, or you can give a one off or monthly donation. Any money donated ensures that The Welcome Centre can continue to keep their doors open and support as many people in the community as possible.

The Splitpixel team will continue to donate and use our volunteer days to support The Welcome Centre. If you would like to get involved with The Welcome Centre, visit their website, or contact us to find our more about our partnership.
