The challenges facing the education sector are different to just about any other industry – but when it comes to digital, there’s still a requirement to provide information to service users and balance the needs of a wide range of stakeholders.
Teachers, staff, students, parents, governors (both current and prospective in all cases) as well as official bodies such as Ofsted – all of these will need to use a school, college or university’s website for different reasons. Making sure all of these needs are represented, and that everyone can find what they need with ease, is essential for a useful digital presence in the sector.
Digital needs in education
There are a lot of bases that need to be covered on a school or higher education website – including, but certainly not limited to:
Primary and secondary education
- Providing course information and prospectuses
- Recruiting teaching staff
- Key dates and calendars
- Staff intranets, email and Ofsted information
Further and higher education
- Attracting students for enrolment
- Education resources
- Student services – housing, health etc.
- Student lifestyle – entertainment and leisure
Our work in the education sector
We’ve done a lot of work for clients in the education sector over the years, both in web design and digital marketing.
Open College of the Arts
One of our most ambitious studio projects to date, our work with the Open College of the Arts - the leading online distance learning university for arts qualifications - saw us not just redesign their website, but also overhaul their entire enrolment process.
Our ongoing work and technical support on the website has led to us providing a wide range of digital marketing services, covering SEO, PPC, social media and content marketing, on a retainer basis.
Buttershaw Business and Enterprise College
We don’t often think of schools as something that have a brand – but they’re still public-facing institutions that need to present the right face to the world.
We helped this Bradford school rebrand as part of its academy bid, developing a colourful, content rich site, full of course information, resources for students, parents, carers and staff, and a custom designed calendar for events and term dates.
University of Huddersfield Students’ Union
We’ve worked extensively with Huddersfield Uni’s SU over the years, on a number of projects touching different areas of student life.
We have recently delivered an accommodation listings website for the Union’s in-house letting agency, HudLets, which integrates with their internal property database, as well as designing, developing and maintaining the dedicated freshers.huddersfield.su freshers’ fair portal.
