About HOME Slough

HOME Slough is part of the Creative People and Places Programme started by Arts Council England. Their aim is to support artists and provide local people with opportunities to get involved in creative exhibitions, workshops, performances, and projects. This includes their exciting creative pop-up space, HOME on the High Street, based in Slough town centre.

The brief

HOME Slough had a logo and a colour scheme to work with and needed that translating into a full website design with new colour variants and styles. This would need to be accompanied by design features which complemented HOME Slough’s creativity and sense of community.

As an organisation based around events, they needed both a strong calendar feature and an easy way of capturing user data of all the creatives wanting to participate in events. They also needed an easy-to-update blog and resource section to keep people up to date with any new exciting projects.

Dynamic design features

We wanted to take HOME Slough’s logo and basic colour scheme and give them something that really let them shine. We designed a cool call to action block that featured an interactive spotlight whenever a user hovered their mouse across the image. We kept everything bright and vibrant with a stylish and eye-catching black, yellow, and red colour palette with bold fonts to create something recognisably HOME.

The final product was minimal while still remaining exciting and dynamic, giving a great mix of striking images and heartfelt copywriting (provided by HOME). This meant that no page ended up too text-heavy but still conveyed any key information in a succinct, accessible way.

Data capture and events

HOME Slough were previously using SurveyMonkey to collect information from any creatives that wanted to participate in projects or organise their own events to be added to HOME’s calendar. We recreated these using Gravity Forms to streamline everything into their CMS. These forms are totally secure and easy to use – both for users and HOME Slough’s staff working with the CMS.

We set HOME Slough up with an advanced event listing system with a full calendar function. This was particularly important for them to advertise virtual events. This will allow them to easily set up and schedule events for users to see. Users will also easily be able to filter events depending on their particular interest.

Futureproof WordPress development

A new website is an investment that many organisations cannot afford to do often. That’s why we focus on developing a site that will stand the test of time with elements that are easy to change and update.

Our WordPress CMS is extremely user friendly, so the team at HOME Slough will be able to keep their new blog and resources section updated as they go – adding and amending content with a few simple clicks. This will allow them room to grow as they continue providing fresh and innovative creative projects in their community.

We really love projects with organisations as creative and community focused as HOME Slough! You can find out more about our projects in the Arts, Culture, and Leisure sector.
